Intensive English Program

The American Academy of English offers classes in all areas of English as a Second Language:

Four levels of classes are offered:

Basic - Focuses on basic life skills, proper pronunciation, basic grammar, vocabulary and reading skills. Also emphasizes speaking/listening.

Beginning - Emphasizes everyday speaking/listening activities, writing diaries and journals, work on accent and intonation, and introduction to beginning grammatical structures.

Intermediate - Emphasizes speaking/listening, vocabulary building, reading improvement, and intermediate grammatical structures as well as accent reduction.

Advanced - Emphasizes advanced vocabulary building, vocabulary for academic purposes, reading and American Culture.

Test Preparation

The Academy offers test preparation courses for the TOEFL and TOEIC. Courses provide instruction and practice in all of the traditionally tested areas, including vocabulary, grammar, reading and listening comprehension. Review of what is traditionally on the exam, advice on strategy, and clear explanations of grammar points help students through the test preparation process.



Certificates Offered

Students attending the Academy who participate regularly and make outstanding improvement in their speech are issued a Certificate of Attendance or Certificate of Achievement. Students taking the TOEIC test are also eligible to receive a certificate from ETS according to the level of language proficiency they have achieved.
