ESL Program Application

How to Apply

We recommend applying at least two months in advance to allow time for your acceptance documents to arrive and visa application to process at the US Consulate or Embassy. To Apply, the following items must be submitted:

I. Application Form

To apply, you can:

  • Click here for a printable application in PDF format.
    Adobe Acrobat Reader installation is required to view the application;
  • or complete our online application.

II. Passport Copy

Mail, fax or E-mail a copy of the ID (identification) page of your passport. Your passport must be valid throughout the duration of your studies and should not expire less than six months after your anticipated last day in the United States .

III. Evidence of Financial Support

Every applicant applying for a student visa needs to show sufficient financial resources to study and live in the United States for the time he/she is here .  The length of study determines the amount. The estimated cost for tuition, housing and meals for a 12-weeks program is about US$4000. For example, if you plan to study for 24-weeks (6 months), you will need to show at least US$8000 of financial resources; US$14000 for one year. If you are applying for two years, you will only need to show one year of financial support.  Generally, there are 3 types of sponsors:

  • Self Sponsor: If you are supporting yourself, you will need to submit your bank statement.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Sponsors:  If your sponsor is a US citizen or permanent resident they will need to complete and notarize an I-134 Affidavit of Support Form and submit a copy along with their financial documents as explained on the form. Contact us for a form if you cannot download it.
  • Other Sponsors:  All other sponsors (non-US citizens or permanent residents) will need to submit their bank statement along with an affidavit verifying their sponsorship.  Some banks will provide an affidavit on the bank statement.  If your bank does not provide this service, ask your sponsor to complete a sponsorship certificate and submit it along with a bank statement.

If you have a relative or friend who is a US citizen or permanent resident and sponsoring you, they will need to complete and notarize an I-134 Affidavit of Support Form. Contact us for a form if you cannot download it. All other sponsors will need to submit their bank statement along with a certificate verifying their sponsorship.

Note: Copies of these document(s) can be faxed, mailed or emailed along with your application. The US Embassy/Consular Office will require the originals as evidence of financial support.

IV. Deposit and Fees

A non-refundable US$75 application fee is required with each application. If you are requesting special courier delivery (USPS express mail, DHL, FedEx) and/or any other services, please include appropriate fees with deposit. These fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. For a list of fees: Click Here.
